The story of adolescence is that of new
things -- changes in one's self, one's experiences, and
ultimately, one's outlook towards life. These years are often
described as exciting years of growth and learning, of change
and exploration. These years capture the things that are most
memorable in an adolescent's lifetime -- the beginning of new
relationships, the cementing of friendships, the finding of
one's self. These experiences are reflected in a student's life
at the Ateneo.
From the beginning of one's stay at the
Ateneo, one will find himself at the center of a whole new world
whose doors are flung wide open. The Atenean's experiences are a
myriad of novelty and wonder, life experiences that he will
always find in his heart.
He will find himself nurtured by a culture
that is unique unto itself, something uniquely Atenean -- a
spirit of camaraderie that gives him an encouraging pat on the
back as he begins to step outside himself and extend his person
towards other, as he absorbs the academics, as he takes his
first attempts at original eloquence, as he participates in the
various activities, as he finds his friends, and as he
ultimately finds himself.
He will find himself surrounded by an
atmosphere of intellectual prowess and immersed in an ocean of
creativity, in the place of debate, the place of speech, the
place of scientific analysis, in the arts, and in the
appreciation of the intellectual heritage he inherits.
He will find himself living in a time that
he knows he will hold dearest to his heart -- a time spent at
the Ateneo, among friends, in a spirit of intelligence and wit,
when he finally found his place, and where he found God's place
in his existence.
This is the student's life at the Ateneo de
Manila High School. These are the best years of one's life.
